A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Valencia, Spain and Canary Islands by TravelPod blogger Johnandrich titled “The Spanish Mediterranean Coast” Johnandrich’s travel blog entry: “April 29 and we arrived in Valencia, Spain. Valencia is Spain’s 3rd largest city with approximately 2 million residents. Rich visited Valencia when he was 16 and was not terribly impressed. The city, however, has made tremendous progress since then and has done a great job at cleaning up and renovating itself. Valencia is now Rich’s favorite city thus far on the trip. The city is clean and vibrant with many historic buildings having been restored and many new parks having been developed. A large river use to run through the center of the city and often caused flooding problems. In the early 1990s the city rerouted the river to flow around the city instead of through it. The city planners then took the 5 mile stretch of dried up river bed that ran through the city and turned it into a beautiful park complete with bike paths, many trees, flowers, fountains etc. It is a great testament to city planning and a creative development of green space for such a large city. Now, the “river” park is the focal point of Valencia. Our time in Valencia was made very special by the fact that a friend we made on the cruise (Tony) was born and raised in Valencia before moving to the US Tony took us all over the city to see where he grew up, went to school, etc. He introduced us to a local treat …
Spain’s third-largest city (after Madrid and Barcelona) comes as a pleasant surprise. Famous for its Paella Valenciana and the Cathedral which houses the Holy Grail relic and the mummified hand of St. Vincent the Martyr, Valencia is identified with the Mediterranean Sea because it is right in the center of the Mediterranean coastline. The Plaza de la Virgen in the old district breathes with history, hosting three buildings of huge importance – the Cathedral, the Basilica de Virgen de Los Desamparados, and Palau de Generalitat, the seat of government. Built between 1262 and 1426, the Cathedral of Valencia stands in the same place where the first temple of this Roman city was erected, and later, an Arab mosque. On the way to Valencia is Alicante, one of the most well-known towns along the Costa Blanca, with its wide tree-lined boulevards, beautiful sandy beaches, and shopping streets, a great example of what is known as Mediterranean landscape, and a mecca for weary travelers.

We nip out for breakfast, where I settle for coffee and toast — there’s only so many 1000 calorie breakfasts I can handle in a week! It’s the day of the annual Christmas lottery, ‘El Gordo’ ( the Fat One) and on the tv the epic draw is being made and the results are sung out by school children (let’s see Dale Winton match that on the UK lottery). The draw goes on for hours and literally fortunes are made on this one day. It’s an intriguing sight. We trudge down to the station in the drizzle and remnants of the recent snowfall and wait for the train. There is no high speed line over to the east coast and Valencia yet and the smart ‘Alaris’ intercity train covers the 400km (250 miles) in three and a half hours, with us in comfortable ‘turista’ or second class seats. The terrain is again a great plain with very few hills (or forests) but miles and miles of growing areas comprising enormous olive groves and pastureland. It is dull and drizzly for most of the journey — I now qualify for a T shirt that says “I have seen the Rain in Spain on the Plain!” As we get closer to the east coast there are small mountain ranges and the olives are replaced by equally large orange plantations where the workers are starting to bring in this …
Remz Flowfile Ft. Alex Cebrian, only 13yo(!), from Valencia Spain. Hola Alex! Congrats for getting sponsored at such a young age, and you just won the MadRoll Am in Madrid last weekend!! Tell us a bit about yourself – My full name is Alex Cebrian Turegano, I’m 13 and I have been skating for 3 years now. I am sponsored by The Crazy House and I ride Flow for Remz in Spain. My hero is Chris Haffey, I had the opportunity to meet him last year in Valencia, Spain, when he came with Kato, Franky and Jacob Juul. How is blading for you in Spain, the comps, what’s fun for you about it all. – I try to skate everyday, at least one or two hours, most of the time with the VLC Crew. I started competing last year and since then I have attended the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Picaroll, Sinkatana 2009, Madroll 2010, VLC Open 2010. I most enjoyed the VLC Open 2010 and the Madroll 2010, I finished 1st in Amateur at both events. You’re obviously a serious up-and-comer at 13 years old but how did this sponsor deal happen for you, and why did you choose Remz? – First I bought a pair of Remz. I liked them so much that when I destroyed them I bought another Remz skates. Then after winning the VLC Open, Ferdy approached me and asked that I become part of the Remz Flow team through The Crazy House shop in Valencia. I love how Remz fits on your feet, it lets u do movements like no other skate. Being on the Remz team means everything to me, it’s where I want to be. And having my video on the website will let …
